Rose’s View: Cherry Grove & Fire Island Pines

Rev up your engines for Porsche on the Invasion red carpet.

We who live in Cherry and The Pines truly live in another world. A fantasy land that people may read or think about, but never live the dream. We are lucky to experience it. Invasion 48 was part of that dream.

The action at the Ice Palace in the morning with MC Joan Rivers (Joe Poza) on the Red Carpet. Island Breeze had Champagne Bubbles, as MC dressed in her gorgeous, glamorous outfit   interviewing Invaders boarding the Ferry to the Pines. In the Pines, Randy Wilson, John Wood and their crew were hustling around preparing the pre-show that began in the early afternoon.    Davida Jones was incredible as MC, warming up the crowd with songs and jokes to move things along. FIPPOA President Henry Robin then took the stage to welcome everyone. Davida introduced performers Lola, Seth Sikes and Rose Levine. Panzi then introduced APCG Homecoming Queen Porsche, who also performed. Groups and the single ladies disembarked wearing spectacular outfits. It was a great day.

Less than a week later, purple flags were the fashion statement as shark warnings ran along the beach. Be careful out there everyone!

Judith Kasen-Windsor from Southampton enjoyed her 10 days in the Grove. Michael and I loved having dinner with her and Emily. We also joined Joan and Lorraine, celebrating their 30th anniversary at Top of the Bay.

A cocktail party, and a delightful performance of a “A Baby Boomer’s Dilemma,” was given by Joe Anania for 100 people at his home.

Pines Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.) was founded in 1970, by Pines residents Myra Kaplan, Lee Frey and Cherry Grove Legend Valerie Perez. Valerie has continued for years to hold benefits and shows to fund-raise for the organization. The Pet Blessing is one of them. Rev. Ray Bagnuolo blessed the many pets who were in attendance last weekend.
