Saturday, April 25 (9-11 a.m.) Creek Defender Community Clean-Up with Save The Great South Bay Swan River & Mud Creek, East Patchogue: Caring for the Great South Bay begins on the land. Improve the quality of the water entering our bay by removing litter, debris, and invasive species through a group volunteer effort! Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience or age, to participate. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Clean-up gear will be provided. Meet at Pine Neck Boat Launch. Please wear eye protection, long sleeves, and pants; sturdy, water-resistant boots are recommended.

Who knows what neglected cemetery souls cry out for recognition for? Whatever urgings took place, Hans Henke heard them at Patchogue’s Lakeview Cemetery. Back in 1991, while still working as a mechanic at his business, Henke Repair Service in Blue Point, Henke found that many of the markers or gravesites—including those of prominent families and the oldest founding merchants—were not identifiable. They were obscured by weeds and thick vines, making walking through the cemetery a challenge.

Filled with uncertainty, this experimental republic would either become the envy of the world or a massive societal failure. Amidst the doubt, Benjamin Tallmadge wasn’t sure what tomorrow held, but he knew he loved Mary Floyd. On March 18, 1784, he stood before an altar overseen by his father, Reverend Benjamin Tallmadge Sr., to pledge his vows of marriage to Mary Floyd, trusting that better days lay ahead.
