The Ice Palace, under the auspices of Daniel Nardicio, presented the 2023 icon series with cabaret legend, the marvelous Marilyn Maye, and Tony Award winners and Broadway legends Chita Rivera and Patti LuPone. The series concluded on Monday, Aug. 28, with Diane Romano presenting Cherry Grove iconic performer, Rose Levine. Rose performed 28 songs, in her 90-minute set, in front of a sold-out and very enthusiastic audience, which included luminaries Wanda Sykes, Broadway dancer Charlie Williams and cabaret singers Marieann Meringolo and Seth Sikes among others. This was a benefit for the Cherry Grove Community Association, Inc. (CGCAI.)

Rose was in spectacular voice and looked sensational with her make-up impeccably done by Richard Cooney. She sang songs from all her favorite composers including Jule Styne, Irving Berlin, Kander and Ebb – and the composer who she was friends with and sings his songs so lovingly, Jerry Herman.

Rose also performed tributes to two of her favorite performers, Fannie Brice and Ethel Merman. Highlights included rousing renditions of “Everything’s Coming up Roses,” from the musical “Gypsy,” as well as the classic “New York, New York.”  Rose also sang a heartbreakingly beautiful rendition of “Fifty Percent” from the musical “Ballroom.” It has become her signature number.

In the audience was one of Rose’s boys, Matthew George, who came onstage and sang a duet with Rose, “You and Me,” from the musical “Victor, Victoria.” He then sang “Just in Time,” giving Rose a chance to change her costume. She looked spectacular in a vintage Oleg Cassini gold sequined cocktail dress and turquoise boa.

A wonderful night was had by all!
