The summer solstice is fast upon us, but we’re already deep into our favorite season: celebration time! The biggest congrats go to our beloved Casino, commemorating its Ontogenetical Anniversary. Some 300 Davis Park denizens had a blast at the festive soirée that ended with a bang, thanks to the fabulous Grucci fireworks show. Even the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of partygoers, which included the former first family of the Caz, the Wrights, along with the Tully clan – missing Jim fiercely but knowing he would have appreciated the great turnout. Here’s to another 80 years of friendship, Rocket Fuels, summer love, fabulous food, and terrific memories!
June also brings some of our favorite people. The Whitehorns ventured north not just for their annual visit, but for Jud and Nicole’s crystal anniversary. We hear that master puzzler Dylan completed one of the world’s hardest jigsaws in record time, with an assist from Everett and Steve. Patti kept the brain teasers coming, showing that being a Mom-Mom pays off in dividends to help keep the youngsters busy. We can’t wait to meet the newest babes under her loving care at the end of the summer. Congrats, Ali and Chris, on your pending bundles of joy!
Don’t forget to dress up your bundles of joy in red, white, and blue for our annual July 4 Parade, held – as always – on July 4. Thanks to the Davis Park Association (DPA) and the Davis Park Fire Department (DPFD) for sponsoring the most fun parade on Fire Island. Deck out your wagon, kids, dogs, and join the fun! Line up at Center and Beach Plum Walks at 10 a.m., and remember that participants are invited to the post-parade barbecue at the firehouse. There will be prizes, including the coveted painted wagon. You don’t want to miss this!
We were glad we didn’t miss Mixed Vibes at the Casino on a cool Sunday afternoon, with even cooler special guest appearances by Joe and Joseph Pino joining in a rolling version of Rockin’ in the Free World. Fil Kefalas was jamming on the sidelines, on stage in spirit. It was a great band on a great day for a fun crowd. Of course, we also had fun celebrating with Jimmy Gibbs and 40 of his closest friends on a rather gloomy Saturday that was substantially brightened by his high-wattage smile. His lovely wife, Kim, knows how to do it right, with Maureen Guardino and the company helping to arrange the shindig. Nate Winn won with his girlfriend Erin’s bikini-bottom-themed, rollicking SpongeBob festivity in his honor.
As we toddled between events, we joined in the community clean-up, doing our part to pick up trash around the boardwalks in Ocean Ridge. Liz Campbell and Lee Cillo inspired us with their Davis Park good citizenry, while Lorraine Foley, Mike Dougherty, and crew tackled the Marina and Trustees Walk. Kudos to all who joined in. Let’s make it a regular thing. Send your tips, tattles, and tidbits to DPRidgeFI@gmail.com. See you around the walks!
