Three Bay Shore Residents Involved in Medford Drag Race Incident

Suffolk County Police, with members of the Street Racing Task Force, impounded multiple vehicles after a drag race-style activity took place on Thursday night, May 15, along National Boulevard in Medford, according to a 911 call placed at 9:51 p.m.

According to police reports, eight drivers engaged in reckless street driving competition, including maneuvers known as “drifting” and “burnouts.”

All eight male drivers, aged 19 to 27, received a total of 38 citations. Six of their vehicles were also seized by police.

The Bay Shore residents involved were Daniel Chavez, 23, whose 2012 Infinity was impounded; and G. Gonzalez, 21, whose 2006 Ford Mustang was impounded. Twenty-two-year-old Rahman-Bailey was also on the scene as a spectator and received a citation, but got to drive away in his 2016 BMW.

Joseph Castiglione, 21, of Lindenhurst, was also on the scene as a participant and had his 2004 Infinity seized.

Other drivers involved came from various Long Island hamlets, including Shawn Abbate, 22, of Deer Park; James Jahn, 21, of Sound Beach; Emanuel Lopez, 19, of Riverhead; and Daniel Barbarito, 27, of Wantagh.

 All will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 4.
