During a routine inspection of the Smith Point Bridge on November 16, Michael Martino, spokesperson for Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, announced a three-ton vehicle limit for the drawbridge that connects Shirley to the eastern end of Fire Island, including Smith Point County Park, via the William Floyd Parkway, and has been in service for 66 years.

Suffolk County is being granted a massive sum of money to help update and replace failing septic systems throughout the county. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul signed this movement into legislation just before August to allocate $30 million to help homeowners update their septic systems. Labeled as Legislation S8241-A/A8807, Suffolk County has secured $20 million of that funding.

Featured is Mourning at the Manor, a historic reenactment of a Victorian wake. Join in the reenactment of the funeral procession and meet some of the family spirits along the way! Admission: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $6 for children.

Columbus Day Weekend and Beyond: Great South Bay Area Events Through mid-October

More than 100 veterans joined a day of gratitude on the water as Hampton Watercraft & Marine hosted its 8th Annual “Take a Veteran Fishing” Tournament on Sunday, September 14. Boats departed from both its Hampton Bays and East Port marina facilities. Invitations were extended to American Legion and VFW posts, VA hospitals, and previous participants. In total, 103 veterans from across Long Island — and as far as New Hampshire — joined this special day honoring our service members.
