Seatuck Environmental Association will begin transitioning out of the home it has occupied for the past 20 years. The conservation group announced on June 15, 2026, that it will end its stewardship role at the Scully Estate on South Bay Avenue in Islip. The organization plans to fully vacate the property by the end of October 2026, marking the end of two decades of storied success at Suffolk County’s environmental center.

The Fourth of July holiday brought another memorable week to Ocean Bay Park, with fireworks, community celebrations, and plenty of reasons to gather with friends and neighbors.

After a week that went from sizzling to drizzling, Kismet celebrated America’s 250th anniversary on July 5. The annual parade included two mainland fire department bands, the Kismet Fire Department (KFD) color guard, mainland Kismet Shriners, parents with babies in arms or strollers, and older children riding on parent-built, wagon-based floats. Some of the prize-winning floats featured themes such as the NBA Champions (Mandels), the current World Cup (Romanzis), the Travis-Tyler wedding (Licaris), Storybook Summer (Padovanos), Pasta Sunday, From Sea to Shining Sea, Founding Toddlers, and many more.

Hundreds of residents from Ocean Beach, Ocean Bay Park and the surrounding area participated in and watched the annual Fourth of July Children’s Wagon Parade as the vehicles used to transport supplies onto the barrier island became the framework for the island’s own version of floats. A total of 67 Fire Island wagons were fitted out as floats; some played music, as each wagon became its own world, often with a roof designed to provide shade from the sun. Wagons named Never Never Land, Firecracker, Spiderman, Candyland, Flower Girl, What about Bob? and The Mermaid passed by. Children, adults, and an occasional dog wore costumes. Organized by the Ocean Beach Community Fund and the Village of Ocean Beach, the parade has become as much of a July Fourth tradition as the fireworks in neighboring communities.

Located inside what had been Burlington Coat Factory in downtown Patchogue until 2021, NYU Langone is bringing this space back to life as an ambulatory care center, with a ribbon-cutting on July 13. This new location will expand access to services by providing an outpatient surgical center for the Suffolk County community.

On June 27, the Ocean Beach Board of Trustees convened in the Boat House for the incorporated village’s monthly meeting, where officials discussed follow-up after the Windswept fire damage, authorized a contract regarding the recycling of used cooking oil, and held a public hearing on a proposed fire safety law.
