Delightful Days in Davis Park

It was still jacket weather over this cool Memorial Day Weekend, but that did not stop the walking ladies from getting their steps in!

It’s hard to believe another memorable Memorial Day has already passed! We took a moment to thank those who served, including our Deer Park Fire Department (DPFD) volunteer firefighters, who were the first responders to bring water to the fierce fire in the Pines.

Special appreciation goes to the newest member, Kyle Pulis, who recently completed Class A training and immediately joined the team, along with Rich Mellace and Jim Cush. Chief Craig Beane and other members stayed local to staff the command post at our firehouse. We’re lucky to have them! Over the weekend, volunteers provided a hands-on demonstration of how to put out kitchen fires, while community kids got to climb on the equipment. Don’t forget to support the DPFD! Thinking about becoming a member? Pick up a raffle ticket or two!

The longstanding Memorial Day Weekend party has traditionally been the Ginsburg’s Champagne and Caviar celebration, but as times change, so too do venues. Anne and Joel Silverman hosted a lively soirée, replete with new neighbors Krysten, Charlie, and Ken Stein Jr., who met the who’s who of the Ridge – from ocean to bay, Driftwood to Whalebone. The Silvermans are now on the hook for an annual shindig.

Anne was on the move the next day, walking with lovely ladies Shelley, Holly, Judy, and Roberta, while the girls of summer – Katie, Asia, Michelle, and Meckla – party-hopped to celebrate new adventures and decades of friendship.

We’ll have plenty to celebrate when the Casino commemorates 80 years of being our anchor and beacon. The party is June 6, but the whole summer is going to be one to remember. The food is great, the bands are banging, and we’re seeing that the weather is cooperating. Do you have stories that can be shared publicly? Send them our way!

We’ve made memories there, and we’ll make more — hopefully while watching some championship basketball (fingers crossed!). We’ll also join the Davis Park Community Recreation, Arts and Beautification (CRAB) for their second annual brunch on June 22, a festive and worthwhile fundraiser for our community beautification organization. You may have seen these dedicated volunteers selling gorgeous plants near the Post Office in May – hopefully, you picked some up. Next time you’re nearby, don’t forget to grab some stamps so we can keep Postmistress Linda in business for many years to come.

If you’ve celebrated too exuberantly, fear not – the Davis Park Medical Association has staffed the doctor’s house for extra weekends this year. Centrally located at 7 Dune Walk, Bedside Manor is the place to go when you need to be seen. This year, new magnets will be distributed with their address and phone number. As veterans of the scrapes, splinters, and some more urgent matters that have needed attention, it’s definitely good information to have.

Summer is coming to our favorite place, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Send your tips, tidbits, and tattles to DPRidgeFI@gmail.com. See you around the walks!
