Weekend of August 22 &23 Arts Project of Cherry Grove Art Show The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) Art Show is returning this summer, reimagined and inside the beautiful air conditioned Cherry Grove Community House. Artists and artisans from the Grove, Fire Island communities, and as far away as the city will be displaying their art for viewing as well as sales. There will be a APCG’s members reception Saturday, August 22 from Noon-1 p.m., and from 1–5p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Sunday the show is open to the public.

Islip Terrace Fire Department Heather’s Helpers 5K

The Heather’s Helpers 5K Run and Walk, hosted by the Islip Terrace Fire Department, will start at 264 Beaver Dam Rd., Islip Terrace, at 9 a.m. A path will lead runners and walkers to the finish line at the ITFD Headquarters, with road markers directing participants. A Kids Fun Run will be held just before the race at 8:20 a.m. The event honors local EMT Heather McNamara, and proceeds support the Heather’s Helpers Foundation. NY State Parks Shark Shack

Sharks are an extremely diverse group of animals on the planet, yet they’re also among the most feared. In this hands-on program at Robert Moses Field 5, near the playground (weather permitting), patrons will learn that this group of fish is full of diversity! The Shark Shack aims to educate the public about the shark species native to New York, introduce other marine life in our waters, and show how to guide a shark interaction. Experience the pop-up display full of shark-related items, turning what once was fear into fascination! This event is FREE to attend and takes place every Thursday and Saturday through Sept. 24. Long Island Maritime Museum Seafood Festival

Calling all seafood fans! The Long Island Maritime Museum Seafood Festival is back for another fantastic year on the museum lawn located at 88 West Ave., West Sayville. This two-day event features delectable bites from local seafood establishments, craft cocktails and beers, live musicians on the Main Stage, and dozens of vendors to explore! You won’t want to miss spending the day by the shimmering Great South Bay, sampling your new favorite dish! Admission: $10 per person. Rocky: The Musical at CMPAC

From the Academy Award-winning Best Picture story, Rocky is entering the ring again in a musical adaptation! Ocean Beach Dock Concert

The Ocean Beach Community Fund and Iversen Construction Co. invite you to an outdoor dock concert in Ocean Beach, with music starting at 7:30 p.m. Dance your heart out on the dock off Bay Walk in Ocean Beach, and ring in the sunset with your friends and family. Shakespeare in the Park: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The Islip Arts Council and the Studio Theater of Long Island Shakespeare Troupe will present William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream as part of Islip Arts Council’s Free Summer Arts in the Parks series! A special fully costumed version has been created for this limited engagement. Monday Night Book Bingo

Join the Saltaire Library, 105 Broadway Avenue, Saltaire, for weekly Monday Night Book Bingo, a treasured tradition in the town. The event combines the excitement of Bingo with the joy of reading, bringing together the little minds of Saltaire. Each Bingo features three lively rounds of play, and every child has the chance to win a brand-new book to take home and keep! The Patchogue-Medford Library welcomes families with little ones to Davis Park Storytime on the boardwalk at Davis Park, Fire Island. Point O’Woods Historical Buildings Tour

All are invited to tour the historic buildings of the Point O’Woods Association, founded in 1898. Space is limited to 30 people. The tour will last approximately one hour. Saltaire Library: Adult Author Event with Joshua Jelly-Schapiro

Join us for a conversation with author Joshua Jelly-Schapiro about his newly released book , Daylight Come, a vivid new biography of Harry Belafonte. From groundbreaking success in music and film to his lifelong civil rights activism alongside Martin Luther King Jr., Belafonte helped shape American culture and history. Author Joshua Jelly-Schapiro brings this remarkable story to life through the lens of music, activism, and American culture. A local Fire Island resident, Jelly-Schapiro is an acclaimed writer, geographer, and journalism professor at New York University. His work has appeared in publications including The New York TimesThe New Yorker, and The New York Review of Books. The Saltaire Library is located inside Saltaire Village Hall.

Lilacs & Roses: Book Signing and Poetry Reading

The Babylon Village Historical Society and the Babylon Village Arts Council invite you to an evening of poetry, inspiration, and celebration at the Babylon Village Museum, 117 W Main Street, Babylon. “Finding Nemo”

Disney and Pixar’s Finding Nemo: A 60-Minute Family Musical is a new stage adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar film, designed for young audiences. The musical follows Marlin, an anxious clownfish who lives in the Great Barrier Reef, after his beloved son, Nemo, goes missing. With help from lovable characters like the optimistic Dory and the laid-back sea turtle Crush, Marlin and Nemo overcome their fears to find each other. Dahlia Inspirations

Founded to encourage, educate, and inspire women artists, Women Sharing Art, Inc. is a nonprofit dedicated to fostering artistic growth and bringing art to the community through exhibitions, educational programs, demonstrations, workshops, and outreach initiatives. This exhibition brings together the work of talented Long Island women artists across a wide range of media, including painting, mosaics, photography, fiber, glass, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, and mixed media. Set within the beautiful surroundings of Bayard Cutting Arboretum, the exhibition creates a natural dialogue between art and landscape. While some artists depict the dahlia itself, others draw inspiration from its brilliant colors, graceful forms, resilience, and seasonal beauty to explore themes of growth, joy, transformation, and imagination. Together, the works reflect the diversity, creativity, and artistic vision that define the members of Women Sharing Art, Inc.

“Recreate a Masterpiece” Exhibit and Photo Contest

Make art come alive with your family and friends at the Long Island Maritime Museum! Recreate: Take a photo in our life-size exhibit featuring Washington Crossing the Delaware for your chance to win a private charter sail on the oyster sloop Priscilla! Strike a pose, snap a pic, and enter it in our photo contest. We’ve got the costumes. You relive the history! The exhibit is open for group photos on a first-come, first-served basis Monday–Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 3 p.m. Free with admission. Don’t forget to allow time to explore the rest of the museum!
