FIRE ISLAND PINES – Rose’s ViewBy Robert LevineMichael DeFalco and Bill Matthews continue with their long lists of houseguests. Last week they had Jerri Norris and her wife Emily Weaver from Chicago. They walked to the Grove, visited with Jan and Edrie and then visited Roseland with us, before going to town for dinner.
Robbie Regina and Gene Kagan hosted a luncheon to support Anna Throne-Holst, supervisor in the Town of Southampton for eight years. She spoke about the issues we are dealing with today. She spent her entire career fighting for various important rights that benefit the community. Also on hand was New York State Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who made some very good points concerning the new election. We must vote on Nov. 8. Henry Robin a board member of FIPPOA and the Pines PAC spoke on behalf of the board. They donated $1,000 to the Anna Throne-Holst PAC fund. Among the crowd were many people from the Pines who support these fundraisers.
Mike and Laura Hartstein held their annual party last weekend. Their son and daughter-in law came from Los Angeles. Their daughter Jennifer and husband Matt Field were all there to celebrate with at least 50 friends from the Pines. Billy Carrol did an extraordinary job presenting and preparing an elegant menu. The food, the atmosphere, and the setting at their bay house were over the top.Henry Robin and his husband Bob McGerity had at least 40 guests from all over the country visit the Pines to attend a reunion party for friends and family. Some were old school mates. Bob’s brother Jim and his wife Cheryl also own a house in the Pines but are not presently spending the summer here and came just for the party.Steve Golembiewski had a beach birthday party for his boyfriend Nick Poteozieri who just turned 44 years old. Nick teaches yoga on the beach at Nautilus Walk every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m.We send Kent Dillon good wishes. At present he is in the hospital. Hopefully by the time this column comes out he’ll be up and running once again in the Pines.John Waters and Ricki Lake appeared at Whyte Hall to a sold out house, presented by Daniel Nardicio. The audience went wild.On Aug. 13, FIPAP presents Bruce Vilanch at Whyte Hall. Bruce performed at various clubs in the Grove for the past two years. With him will be The Skivvies. Showtime begins at 8 p.m.“Sibling Revelry” starring Broadway sisters Liz Callaway and Ann Hampton Callaway will be performed in the Pines on Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. They performed together and separately in the Grove for the past three years. They are wonderful.The Blue Whale has a drag brunch every Saturday at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Performing are Bootsie Lefaris, Jada Valenciaga, Sugar Pie Coco, Aquaria, and Ebony Excel.Joe Barros choreographed the Pines productions of “Hello Dolly” and “Guys and Dolls.” He then directed “Falsettos” and just returned from Mezzano, Italy, where he directed a production of “Nine and Die Fledermaus.” For six weeks prior to going to Italy, he directed “Catch Me if You Can” in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He will be returning to the Pines to direct and choreograph the Labor Day weekend show, “Once on This Island,” at Whyte Hall, on Sept. 2, 3, and 4 at 8 p.m. Musical Director is Jack Aaronson.
