The 14-year-old from Mastic Beach, who went missing on October 17, was recovered safely six days later. Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) began sending public alerts to media outlets after Liam Stark was dropped off at William Floyd High School by his older brother at 7:10 a.m. that morning. Still, when his mother came to meet him at the 2:30 p.m. school bus, he was not on it.

Suffolk County is being granted a massive sum of money to help update and replace failing septic systems throughout the county. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul signed this movement into legislation just before August to allocate $30 million to help homeowners update their septic systems. Labeled as Legislation S8241-A/A8807, Suffolk County has secured $20 million of that funding.

Oquenock Elementary School in the West Islip Union Free School District held a dedication ceremony in its outdoor café to celebrate the installation of the school’s new buddy bench, generously donated by the West Islip Retired Teachers Association (WIRTA) in honor of former West Islip teacher Simonne Harkavy. Twelve WIRTA members were in attendance to join in the celebration. During the ceremony, Oquenock Elementary School Principal Amanda Harvey also honored New York State United Teachers’ Retiree Recognition Day and presented the attending members with flowers.
