“Unfortunately, and despite our warnings and advice to leave [Fire Island] while conditions allowed, many decided not only to stay but to come over to the island,” scolded Ocean Beach Mayor James Mallott in an emailed newsletter on the afternoon of Sept. 26, during the height of the nor’easter. “These decisions put themselves and their families in danger and jeopardized our first responders who had to answer calls that never should have been.”

All ferry carriers along the Great South Bay, including Fire Island Ferries, Inc. in Bay Shore; Sayville Ferry Service; and the Patchogue-based Davis Park Ferry, have announced service suspensions ahead of the nor'easter predicted to head toward Long Island over the coming weekend.

Saturday, July 11 (8 p.m.) The Guinness World Record-holding Rose Levine wows the Cherry Grove Community House Theater once again with an all-star musical cast, including Seth Sikes and Daniel Reichard. The show takes place on July 11, beginning at 8:30 p.m. The Cherry Grove Community House Theater is located at 180 Bayview Walk in Cherry Grove.

Festivities began on June 12, when the Ocean Bay Park Fire Department Auxiliary hosted its annual Belmont Stakes Party. The firehouse was buzzing as a great turnout of residents and guests gathered for the beloved tradition. The dedicated auxiliary members prepared and served an impressive spread of wine, beer, cheese, and desserts. Inside, friendly rivalries unfolded during the “Pick a Pony” raffle, with cheers erupting for Golden Tempo, the winning horse.
