Harp & Hound, the popular Irish-style pub in downtown Islip Hamlet has closed after a kitchen fire on the morning of November 12. The Islip Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 7:34 a.m. and arrived to find smoke coming from the back of 528 Main Street. When they entered, crews saw flames coming from the cook loft above the kitchen, as well as from the building’s electrical service, according to accounts described by Islip Fire Department 2nd Chief Ferrari.

Great South Bay Area Long Island Boater Groups are reporting accounts of multiple first responder units mobilizing to a capsized boat incident offshore of Fire Island inlet earlier today. Two individuals were pulled from the frigid water, but their chances of survival are uncertain at this time. An official police report was not released upon initial publication of this article. This story is in development, and we will follow up when more information becomes available.

The Suffolk County DA's Office is seeking information about a cold case from 1978 and is appealing to the public for help that could assist in bringing closure to the victim’s family. On April 7 of that year, a man walking his dog along the beach at Heckscher State Park was about 150 feet from the water when his dog started scratching in the loose sand, revealing the top part of a human skull. Law enforcement arrived and uncovered additional skeletal remains. A belt was also found, tightly bound around the deceased's neck.
