Saturday, June 20 Bromley Caldari House Tour (1-4 p.m.) The Fire Island Pines Historical Society will host the Bromley Caldari House Tour on Saturday, June 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., offering a rare opportunity to step inside seven notable Fire Island Pines homes designed by renowned architects Scott Bromley and Jerry Caldari. Known for helping shape the distinctive architectural character of the Pines, Bromley Caldari’s work has influenced some of the community’s most recognizable modern homes. You’ll receive a map for a self-guided tour, and along the way, attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy a “Margarita from Hell” at 519 Porgie Walk. Tickets are $40 per person. Friday, March 27 Guardians of the Water: Long Island’s Water Keepers Join Save The Great South Bay for a regional conversation featuring the Waterkeepers who serve as independent guardians of Long Island’s waterways. We will formally welcome Andy Mirchel as the newly appointed Long Island South Shore Waterkeeper, protecting the South Shore from Eastern Great South Bay to Jamaica Bay as a full-time advocate for clean, swimmable, and fishable waters. Andy will be joined by fellow Waterkeepers from across Long Island, united through the Waterkeeper Alliance — a global network of more than 300 advocates working to safeguard our bays, estuaries, and coastal communities. Moderated by the Long Island Association, this discussion will explore the biggest threats facing our waters — from nitrogen pollution and aging infrastructure to climate change — and what must happen next. The Bayport Water Rescue Team has a tall order: Long Island's South Shore has an estimated 118 miles of shoreline extending east to west. Along this vast stretch of shoreline, there are 1,400 square miles of landmass encompassing hundreds of canals in coastal towns, giving the area a distinctive feel—like Venice—which has defined life on the South Shore. However, as much as we adore our canals and shorelines, they pose a constant threat that requires an elite team of specialized emergency workers to brave the depths to save lives.
